The Forest

- - -
These are some Citadel forest, the last scenery I will use in the game board, which I provisionally will title "The King to Come" or "The Champion of the Realm".

These forest are very big for 1/72 scale, so I haven't used the base of the trees, including a new one with cork and green stuff, so the trees are about 3cm smaller. I also cut the plastic bases of the forest to create more bases, smaller, with the approximate size recommended for Impetus. So, in total I have three forest bases, and also another special one, a Ceremonial Tree.

Before painting the forest bases, I remove some roots, because they seem to me a bit fussy. I painted the bases Burnt Umber, with a heavy dry brush of British Uniform, and then some thin layers of Dark Sand. The stones are painted with several dry brush layers of Neutral Grey, German Fieldgrey and Blue Pale Grey, with some bases of black, brown and green. For the trees, I used the holm oak as a reference. They have a base coat of Burnt Umber, with washes of  black paint mixed with Burnt Umber. The greenish side has several layers of  Extra Dark Green, Reflective Green, Green Grey and German Camo Beige, with Agrax and Nuln Oil Citadel inks.

The Ceremonial Tree has a lot, a lot of extra branches of the tree kit, with chains and other accessories. The stones are made of carved poliespan and then texturized with Aquaplast. I used some Oyumaru moulds with some skulls from the Caesar's Undead box. In the future, I will include grass, bushes and foliage, but now they will be like this, in an aspect of a desert.

The Keep and the Flying Mansion

- - -
I've finished the two fortifications that will be the most important part of the game board, and I'm very satisfied with the result. Both castles are the first of their size I make for 1/72 scale, and the first for Middle Ages, and I like them to be part of future projects.

- - -
With that idea in mind, the Flying Mansion is removable from the Island to be placed in the ground, too. The Blanche style, "Blanshitsu" calls me and I would like to have some 1/72 figures in the future based in that style. On the other hand, the Castle can be also removed from the hill, and I would like to crate another, bigger and rocky hill for it.

- - -
You have some pictures of both buildings, although I would like to include more vegetation and to paint more weather effects, lichen, and so on...

Castles WIP

- - -
To finish up the game table I would like to prepare some scenery to be the main focus of the game. To do so, I'm preparing two castles or fortification, with some forest.

- - -
The first project is a castle made of the MiniArt kit Medieval Castle. Is a kit very versatile, and the pieces can be use in very different forms. To create the castle, I though about a mottled and chunky castle, where the builders added parts as the time went by. I used the two big towers and two walls to create a compact building, were I will add some more light parts, made of with card board.

- - -
The card board part represent some permanent guardhouses, which finally were build up with brick and roof.

- - -
The other scenery is a fortified mansion, based in a picture of John Blanche. It will be and striking part, a mansion over a floating island.

- - -
The base is made of with a CD. I use modelling clay to give it shape. The mast will be used to insert the island in it. The sticks hold the clay as I work it, but finally I decided to use some of them to represent moorings for the island.

- - -
The back of the mansion was a little flat, so I added an overhang in the centre.

- - -
To make te island, I used white porexpan. Although weeping up the little balls is a hassle, it is very easy to carve it with a chicken knife, giving it organic shapes.

- - -
To texturize the walls and surfaces of the castle and mansion, I used putty and Aquaplast. The Aquaplast is universal for every texture you want. Depending you apply it, it can represent different surfaces. For earth and rock, I prefer to tap the surface; for walls, etc, I brush it up.

- - -
The wood beams are made of balsa wood. Roof is made up with rows of cut card.  I also texturized the island and hill with more Aquaplast, and also added sand to finish it.

¡Ahora, a pintar!
- - -
The island has some more porexpan bits to give it the sensation of an ethereal flight. They are joined with the main island with wire, weaved to give he impression of lianas. I also included a little walkway made of balsa wood. Now, to paint it!
