Roman battle

El otro día mi amigo Pepe y yo jugamos una partida a 300 puntos de Impetus con dos mandos cada uno. La batalla fue muy emocionante y no se decidió hasta el mismo final. La batalla se libró entre la legión II Traiana, acompañada de Auxiliares, Lanciarii y caballería, y la XVI Flavia escoltada por una vexillatio de la III Cyrenaica, un grupo de Auxiliares, caballería y un Ala de Dromedarii.

The other day mi friend Pepe and me played an Impetus play of 300 points and 2 commands in each side. The battle was very exciting and it wasn't decided to the very end. The battle was fought between the legion II Traiana, acompained with Auxiliary infantry, Lanciarii and cavalry, and the XVI Flavia escorted by one vexilla of the III Cyrenaica, some Auxiliary, cavalry and an Ala of Dromedarii.

El combate se inició con el avance de las tropas auxiliares, lanciarii y caballería para hacerse con el centro del campo y sus flancos. La infantería auxiliar tuvo un éxito desigual: mientras que las tropas de la legión XVI Flavia fueron rápidamente rodeadas y derrotadas, los Auxiliares de la II se vieron enfrentadas a los legionarios y la caballería rivales tras el frenesí del combate inicial.

The battle started with the advancing of the auxiliary troops, lanciarii and the cavalry to take control of the central battlefield and its wings. The auxiliary infantry had an irregular succes: while the troops of the XVI Flavia were quickly surrounded and defeated, the Auxilia of the II legion were suddenly faced against the enemy legionaries and cavalry after the rage of the initial combat.

Mientras ambas legiones avanzaban hacia el combate en el centro, ninguno de los dos bandos conseguian el éxito en ninguno de los flancos. Los lanciarii de la II legión consiguieron detener y desgastar seriamente a la vexillatio de la III Cyrenaica, mientras que la caballería y los dromedarii de la XVI hicieron retroceder poco a poco a la caballería de la II Traiana.

As both legions advanced to the central combat, no force could obtain a clear benefit in both wings. The II legion's lanciarii could stop and weared down seriosly the vexillatio of the III Cyrenaica, while the cavalry and dromedarii of the XVI move back the cavalry of the II Traiana.

Cuando las legiones chocaron, la XVI apenas pudo resistir el ataque de la II, desgastada por los combates anteriores contra los auxiliares y lanciarii. Sin tener tantas tropas comprometidas, el tribuno de la II Traiana desvió dos cohortes para hacer frente a la caballería que, tras hacer huír a su caballería de apoyo, amenazaba con rodear a la legión por el flanco. Sin embargo, las tropas frescas de la II pudieron derrotar fácilmente al mando de caballería de la XVI, decidiendo la batalla a su favor.

When the legions clashed, the XVI hardly could resist the attack of the II, weared because the later combat against the auxiliar and lanciarii. Not having so much troops engaged, the tribune of the II Traiana commanded two cohors to face the enemy cavalry that, after defeating the auxiliary cavalry, menaced to surround the II legion. The untached troops of the II legion could defeat the cavalry command of the XVI, wining the battle at least.
