La provincia de Shinano fue la primera región en ser conquistada por Takeda Shingen. Hubo tres daimyo, anteriores a su archienemigo Uesugi Kenshin, que se enfrentaron duramente al poder Takeda durante más de 10 años. Estos tres daimyo eran enemigos conocidos por los guerreros de Kai, y al principio de la carrera militar de Shingen se unieron con la intención de derrotar al pretencioso y joven lider del clan Takeda.

Shinano province was the first region being conquered by Takeda Shingen. There were three daimyo before his archenemy Uesugi Kenshin, which fought hardly against the power of the Takeda during more than 10 years. These three daimyo were well-known enemies of the Kai warriors, and at the beginning of the military career of Shingen they joined together trying to defeat the young and pretentious leader of the Takeda clan.
El primero en enfrentarse a él fue Suwa Yorishige, daimyo del sur de Shinano y sumo sacerdote de dos importantes santuarios shinto. Suwa Yorishige fue derrotado durante la campaña llevada a cabo por Shingen en 1542, cuando fue traicionado por Takato Yoritsugu, un daimyo vecino que aspiraba al control de ambos santuarios. The first of them to fight Takeda was Suwa Yorishige, daimyo from the south of Shinano and chief priest of two important shinto shrines. Yowishige was defeated during a campaign in the year 1542, being betrayed by Takato Yoritsugu, a neighbouring daimyo wich also wanted the control of both sanctuaries. Suwa Yorishige finally surrender and commited hara kiri.

Another local daimyo which fought agains Takeda was Ogasawara Nagatoki. Nagatoki supported Murakami Yoshikiyo against Takeda, but also he organized his own campaign against the Kai strategist. He was finally defeated, so he fled and took refuge in Murakami Yoshikiyo's lands.
El último de los daimyo de Shinano y el que ofreció mayor resistencia a Shingen fue Murakami Yoshikiyo. Murakami era el daimyo más poderoso y controlaba las tierras limítrofes con la provinica de Echigo. Murakami se enfrentó duramente a Shingen apoyando a los daimyos vecinos, pero cuando todos estos fueron sometidos, acabó dirigiendo una campaña en solitario durante cinco años. Murakami fue el primer general japonés en utilizar armas de fuego en la batalla de Uedahara, y más adelante aún derrotaría a Takeda en el castillo de Toishi. Sin embargo, finalmente Yoshikiyo se vió apremiado a huír de Shinano para convertirse en uno de los generales de Uesugi Kenshin.

The last of the Shinano daimyos, and the one who offered more resistence was Murakami Yoshikiyo. Murakami was the most powerfoul daimyo of the northern lands of Shinano, close to Echigo province. Murakami fought hardly against Shingen supporting the local daimyos, but when all of them were submitted, he fought alone for five years. Murakami was the first japanese general in using firearms in the battle of Uedahara, and he will defeat Takeda again in the battle of the siege of Toishi. At the end, Yoshikiyo had to scape from Shinano and become one of the generals of Uesugi Kenshin.
