Sengoku evening battles

Ayer disfrutamos de una productiva tarde de batalla con dos batallas seguidas. Hemos tratado de utilizar la mayoría de las miniaturas que ya tengo pintadas, aunque algunas unidades se han quedado fuera por no disponer de los suficientes bugyo empeanados. He utilizado los seis Taisho pintados hasta la fecha, con dos Sotaisho representados con los dos líderes Goho y Uwa, que pronto se transformarán en Ogasawara y Suwa. Los bandos están divididos en "rojos" y "blancos", como en la guerra Gempei.

Yesterday we enjoy a productive evening of battle, with two consecutives battles. We've tried to use the most of the figures I already have painted, although some units were left because I still don't have enough bugyo with the new base sister. I've used the six Taisho painted, with two Sotaisho represented with the two fictional leaders Goho and Uwa, which soon will be transformed into Ogasawara and Suwa. Both sides are divided in "reds" and "whites", like in the Gempei war.

La primera batalla se trataba de un asedio. El clan Blanco, dirigido por Uwa, estaba desplegado en torno al yamashiro, y está formado por los Taisho Itagaki, Baba y Hara. Hara está preparado para flanquear a través de la aldea al enemigo. El clan Rojo, dirigido por Goho, está formado por Murakami, Obu y Amari. Obu cuenta con una imponente fuerza de arqueros que marcarían la diferencia en el combate.

The first battle was a siege. The White clan, commanded by Uwa, was deployed surrounding the yamashiro, and is composed by Itagaki, Baba and Hara Taisho. Hara is prepared to flank the enemy through the village. The Red clan, directed by Goho, is composed by Murakami, Obu and Amari Taisho. Obu has an impressive bowmen force that will make the difference in the battle.

Con el nuevo sistema de mando, cada Taisho tiene asignados una serie de bugyo, que dirige cada uno un regimiento (kumi). Los bugyo se distinguen por ser peanas con estandarte, y pueden dirigir una peana de samurai o de ashigaru, añadiendo su atributo de Mando a la unidad. También pueden aparecer unidades sueltas, de caballería o infantería, como las dos de arqueros samurai a caballo que aparecen dirigidos por Murakami, o la unidad de samurai con Horo que dependen de Hara. Estas unidades combaten solas y utilizan su propio valor de Mando.

With the new command system, every Taisho has several bugyo under their command, each one in command of one regiment (kumi). The bugyo are distinguished because they are bases with banner, and they can leader one ashigaru or samurai base, adding their Command ability to the hole unit. Also, it can be lonely units, infantry or cavalry, like the two samurai bowmen cavalry commanded by Murakami, or the horo samurai cavalry directed by Hara. These units fight alone, and use their own Command value.

En las dos últimas fotos se pueden ver los dados que llevan los contadores de desorden de las unidades. El desorden resta puntos al valor de Mando, y si el Mando llega a 0, la unidad se desbanda automáticamente y es retirada del tablero. En Sengoku Jidai las unidades no huyen como tal, para evitar tener tropas correteando por el campo de batalla, lo que molesta mucho al desarrollo del juego. Los Taisho usan dados de diferente color, porque su Mando también se ve debilitado por perder bugyo bajo su mando.

The last two pictures show the dices used to mark the disorder counters of the units. Disorder rest points to the Command value, and if the Command value decreases to 0, the unit flee automatically and is retired from the board. In Sengoku Jidai units don't withdraw, to avoid troops running back and forth in the battlefield, which is very annoying for the game. Taisho generals use a different color dice, because their Command is also weakened because of losing bugyo under their command.

Después de ser vapuleados, la unidad superviviente de Itagaki se retiró del centro del campo de batalla bajo el fuego de los arqueros de Obu, mientras que los generales Hara y Baba, únicos supervivientes de sus divisiones, se decidieron a inmolarse en el campo de batalla, dando la batalla totalmente por perdida.

After being heated heavily, the surviving Itagaki's unit retired from the centre of the battlefield under the fire of Obu's bowmen, meanwhile Hara and Baba commanders, the last survivors of their divisions, decided to sacrifice themselves in the battlefield, considering the battle completely lost.

La segunda batalla, jugada con los mismos Taisho pero con diferentes tropas, fue una batalla campal. La batalla estuvo mucho más reñida, pero el bando Rojo volvió a vencer. En el centro del río podéis ver los marcadores de heridas de las unidades. Una unidad puede perder a todos sus hombres antes de huir, pero también puede huir sin haber sufrido excesivas bajas, según lo castigada que haya sido por el enemigo.

The second battle, played with the same Taisho but with different troops, was a pitched battle. The battle was a bitter one, but the Red side won again. In the middle of the river you can see the wounds markers we use. A unit can lost all its men before fleeing, but also can flee without having serious losses, depending how the enemy punish them.

El punto más épico de la partida fue cuando la columna de yari ashigaru de Hara flanqueo las tropas de Amari y, tras acabar con todos, Amari y Hara se enfrentaron en un combate singular.

The most epic part of the battle happened when the yard ashigaru column of Hara flanked Amari's troops and, after defeating them all, Amari and Hara fought a singular battle.

Takeda Commanders

He completado la primera fase de mi largo proyecto sobre el ejército Takeda: se trata de cinco peanas con los principales generales del clan Takeda en su primera etapa: Itagaki Nobukata, Amari Torayasu, Hara Toratane, Obu Toramasa y Baba Nobuharu. Todos ellos formaban parte del grupo de señores vasallos o fudai, que Shingen heredó de su padre Takeda Nobutora, y son los más antiguos vasallos de Shingen.

I've finished the first step of my long-term project about the Takeda army: it is five bases with the main generals of the Takeda clan in it's first time: Itagaki Nobutaka, Amari Torayasu, Hara Toratane, Obu Toramasa and Baba Nobuharu. They all were part of the fudai, or old vassals, which Shingen inherited from his father Takeda Nobutora, and are the most ancient vassals of Shingen.

Itagaki Nobukata y Amari Torayasu fallecieron durante la batalla de Uedahara contra Murakami Yoshikiyo. Ambos se habían destacado como consejeros y militares, y habían alcanzado un alto rango dentro del clan. Itagaki fue encargado de la educación del joven Shingen y ostentó los títulos de Señor de Suwa y Suruga. Escribí más información sobre ellos aquí, cuando aún proyectaba en 28mm.

Itagaki Nobukata and Amari Torayasu pass away together during the Uedahara battle against Murakami Yoshikiyo. Both were well known advisors and strategist, and they were very well considered inside the clan. Itagaki was in charge of young Shingen's education, and he had the titles of Lord of Suruga and Suwa. I wrote more about them here (Spanish only), when I was projecting in 28mm.

Estos son los estandartes de Itagaki. Los estandartes de Amari pueden encontrarse aquí. Las líneas en marrón sirven para distinguir el nobori del asta del estandarte. Una vez pegado, recomiendo pintar sobre el color marrón el color del hasta que elijas.

These are Itagaki's banners. The flags from Amari can be found here. The brown stripes allow to distinguish the nobori colors from the banner flagpole. After glued, I recommend to paint the brown color with the colors of the shaft you choose. 

Obu Toramasa es conocido por ser uno de los generales más antiguos del clan Takeda, y también por dirigir el conocido "Regimiento Rojo", que más tarde sería imitado por Ii Naomasa. Obu fue encargado de la educación del hijo de Shingen, Takeda Yoshinobu, pero finalmente fue encontrado culpable de traición y ordenado a realizarse el sepukku. Su hermano pequeño, Yamagata Masakage (otro de los generales de Shingen), heredó dicho regimiento a su muerte y se distinguió especialmente en Nagashino, sobreviviendo a su señor.

Obu Toramasa was recognized to be one of the oldest Takeda generals, and also to create the Red Regiment, which later would be imitated by Ii Naomasa. Obu was in charge of the education of Shingen's son Takeda Yoshinobu, but finally he was found guilty of treachery and committed sepukku. His younger brother, Yamagata Masakage (another of the famous Shingen's commanders), inherited the Red Regiment and distinguish himself during Nagashino, surviving his master.

Hara Masatane y Baba Nobuharu son también dos generales bien reconocidos. Ambos sirvieron a Shingen desde sus orígenes como señor del clan Takeda, y ambos le sobrevivieron hasta morir sirviendo a su hijo, Takeda Katsuyori, en la batalla de Nagashino. De Hara Masatane se decía que era muy buen general Ashigaru, de forma que podía hacer a diez ashigaru combatir como cien. Por otro lado, Baba Nobuharu se convirtió en uno de los consejeros de confianza de Shingen después de la muerte de Itagaki Nobutaka, y de él se decía que no sufrió ninguna herida en batalla gracias a su maestría de la estrategia.

Hara Masatane and Baba Nobuharu were also well recognized generals. They both served Shingen from his origins as Takeda clan lord, and survived him until they died serving his song, Takeda Katsuyori, fighting in the battle of Nagashino. About Hara Masatane was said that he was such a very good Ashigaru General, that can make fight ten ashigaru like one hundred. On the other hand, Baba Nobuharu became one of the most entrusted councilors of Shingen after the death of Itagaki Nobutaka, and was said he didn't suffer any wound in battle because of his mastery of strategy.

Not Space Marines

Estas son las primeras unidades de Caballeros que van a servir como Marines Espaciales.

These are the first units of Knights which are going to be like Space Marines.

Las miniaturas van pintadas con el esquema de color de los Templarios Negros. Aún no he preparado los estandartes, pero pretendo incluir estandartes heráldicos que tengan un aspecto más marcadamente gótico-medieval que los estandartes de capítulo de los Marines Espaciales.

These figures are painted using the Black Templar color scheme. I haven't prepared the banners yet, but I want to include some heraldic flags with a more remarkable gothic medieval banners than the ones of the Space Marines.

El grupo de mando representa al Mariscal y su cuartel general. Para no realizar conversiones, los caballeros con espada cuentan como Marines con bólter, mientras que los caballeros con armas a dos manos, o con escudo y espada cuentan como marines con pistola bólter y espada sierra. El color de los cascos también ayuda a distinguir el tipo de arma. Así, las dos miniaturas a los lados del Mariscal llevan una franja roja en el casco blanco de veteranos para indicar que portan armas de energía.

The command group shows the Marshal and his Headquarters. In order of not making a lot of conversions, the knights with swords count as Marines with bolter, meanwhile the knights with two handed weapons, or with shield and sword count as Marines with chain sword and bolt pistol. The helmets color scheme also helps to distinguish the kind of weapon. The two figures flanking the Marshall wear a red stripe along the veteran's white helmet to indicate they are carrying power weapons.

Estas dos escuadras de línea llevan dos sargentos, uno con puño de combate y otro con arma de energía. Los yelmos rojos indican el tipo de arma que llevan. El puño de combate está hecho con el puño de un marine espacial. Los escudos con la heráldica blanca y roja indican que son tropas de línea. Sus hombreras blancas sirven como parte del esquema de colores de los Templarios, pero también indican su pertenencia a tropas de línea.

These are the two squads with sergeants, one with power fist and another with power weapon. Red helmets indicate they are carrying power weapons. The power fist is made with the one of a Space Marine. The small shields with white and red heraldry indicates they are line troops. Their white shoulder pads also indicates they are line troops.

Estas otras escuadras llevan armas pesadas. Las armas están hechas con bólteres de Marines. La primera representa un bólter pesado, la segunda un cañón de plasma. El color amarillo ayuda a hacerlas visibles en el campo de batalla.

These other two squads use heavy weapons. The guns are made with Marine's bolter. The first one count as a heavy weapon, and the other a plasma cannon. They are painted in yellow to make them easily located in the battlefield.

Samurai armies review

He pasado revista a los diferentes ejércitos samuráis que llevo preparando desde hace un par de años, y este es el resultado.

I made a review of the different samurai armies I've preparing in the last two years, and this is the result.

Con el proyecto Onin, la cosa está como a un tercio del proyecto. Pinté un general Taisho con el nuevo sistema de baseado, pero los demás bugyo están sin rebasear.

With the Onin project, the thing is about a third of the plan. I painted a Taisho general with the new basing sister, but the other bugyo are still unrebased.

El otro proyecto a largo plazo, que inicié en primer lugar, es el de la conquista de Shinano por Takeda Shingen, hace ya cuatro años (!) y el que más cambios ha tenido.

The other long-term project, which I started the first, is the one of the Shinano conquest from Takeda Shingen, four years ago (!), and the one who has changed the most.

Las fuerzas de Itagaki Nobutaka aparecen con el estandarte en negro. Me gusta mucho este personaje, y me gustaría dedicarle alguna tropa de samuráis más. Voy a cambiar sus estandartes: la heráldica del Umajirushi es muy pequeña, y la del nobori está al revés. Un ejemplo de que las cosas, con prisas, salen mal.

Itagaki Nobutaka's troops. I like very much this character, and I'd like to prepare some other samurai troops to him. I'm going to change the flags: the Umajirushi heraldry is very small, and the nobori is looking the wrong side! One example about how to be hurry is not good.

La peana de mando de Takeda Shingen es la mejor miniatura que he pintado hasta la fecha.

Takeda Shingen's command stand is the best figure I've painted right now.

La otra parte del proyecto es el ejército de Murakami Yoshikiyo. Al ejército le faltan dos peanas de samuráis en proceso de pintado y una peana de caballería, que tengo que repintar y montar.

The another part of the project is the army of Murakami Yoshikiyo. The army needs two samurai bases, which are being painted, and another cavalry base, which I have to repaint and base.

Las partes restantes son los ejércitos de Goho y Uwa, que preparé para representar peanas de generales  y tropas genéricos para la campaña de Shinano, y algunas peanas de caballería que tengo que rebasear.

The rest of the troops are the Goho and Uwa armies, which I will prepare to represent random general and troops for the Shinano campaign, and some cavalry units I want to rebase.
