The Sacred Band of the Skull

La Hermandad de la Calavera es denominada por sus miembros símplemente Sagrada Hermandad. Dentro de los numerosos cultos existentes en Labyrynthus, destaca la creencia en que la cabeza es el receptáculo de la inteligencia y del ser de un individuo, y por lo tanto también se asume que en ella reside el alma. A lo largo y ancho del mundo de Labyrynthus se rinde culto a los cráneos de los difuntos, al margen de cualquier otro ritual funerario que se ofrezca al cadáver.

The Band of the Skull is named by its members simply the Sacred Band. Among the multiple religions in Labyrinthus, the most remarkable is the believing of the head as a receptacle of the intellect and being of and individual, and so the residence of the soul. Far and wide the Labyrinthus world the skull of the dead is worshipped, apart from any other funerary ritual the corpse can receive.

La Hermandad de la Calavera considera un deber sagrado rendir el necesario culto a los difuntos a través de la recolección y preservación de sus cráneos. Recorren los pasillos y corredores de el Laberinto buscando y seleccionando las cabezas de los guerreros fuertes y valerosos caídos en combate, como último gesto de respeto a su muerte y exaltación de su heroísmo. Por ello suelen ser avistados en los lugares donde se ha celebrado una batalla, o incluso han intervenido en un combate si por casualidad o de manera oportuna han podido asistir a él. La Hermandad toma nota de los guerreros más sobresalientes en la lucha, acuden a ellos si han caído y rinden sus últimas exequias con actitud reverente.

The Band of the Skull consider its holy duty is to worship the dead through the collection and preservation of their cranium. They tour around corridors and hallways of the Labyrinth, searching and selecting the heads of the strong and brave warriors fallen in battle in order to show respect and exalt their passing away. This is why they use to be seen in the places where a battle was fought, or even step in a combat. The brotherhood record the most brave fighters, and then attend them if they fall and so they can arrange his funeral with reverence.

El actual Sumo Sacerdote de la Hermandad es el capellán Sogro. El fervor y entrega de Sogro ha destacado por encima de sus antecesores, y con su labor ha elevado a un nivel que roza el éxtasis la actividad y dedicación de sus hermanos.

The actual High Priest of the Band is the chaplain Sogro. He is zealous and devoted even compared with his past predecessors, and with his pastoral work he had raised the labour of the Band close to a  mystical rapture.

El capellán lleva a cabo con un ansia febril la recolección de cráneos, con la obsesión de dar honor y gloria a los valerosos caídos. Esta fanática actividad ha llevado a la Sagrada Hermandad a irrumpir en las batallas que puede encontrar, sin esperar a que los grandes héroes caigan abatidos, si no que ellos mismos llevan a cabo la tarea de darles una muerte gloriosa. De esta manera pueden asegurarse de que las cabezas de los héroes serán justamente guardadas y consagradas. Esta sagrada misión es llevada a cabo por el Campeón de la Hermandad, elegido por su destreza y devota dedicación entre los hermanos miembros para llevar la gloriosa muerte y su justa redención a aquellos héroes merecedores de tal honor.

The chaplain is taking his labour in a febrile way, obsessed with the idea of honor the noble fallen warriors. This idea has taken the Sacred Band to burst into any battle they can find, not waiting for the warriors to fall, but taking their lives away in order to concede them the most glorious death possible. Doing it, they can make sure that their heads will be correctly keep and consecrated. This sacred mission is taken by the Champion of the Band, selected because of his martial skills and devotion, in order to concede the highest honor the Sacred Band is able to offer to the warriors that are about to fall.

Los sacristanes de la Hermandad son aquellos aspirantes a suceder al capellán tras su muerte. Ejercen como sus lugartenientes y emisarios y cumplen diligentemente en combate la labor de señalar y capturar las cabezas de los guerreros que destaquen en la lucha. Están equipados con armas de arcano poder para ayudar al Campeón en su sagrada misión, y favorecer así el tránsito de los héroes que han seleccionado en su ordalías final.

The sacristan of the Band are those who will succeed the chaplain after his death. They act as  his lieutenants and emissaries in battle and follow the orders to signal and capture the heads of the warriors that stand out in combat. They are equipped with weapons of arcane power in order to give aid to the Champion in his holy mission, and so to facilitate the transit to death of the heroes they will worship.

Otros miembros de la Compañía son el portador del estandarte y del incensario. Ambos tienen la misión de señalar el lugar de un héroe caído y ayudar en las labores de consagración de su cuerpo y cabeza. El cargo de portaestandarte supone un gran honor y también un gran riesgo, ya que su portador no podrá defenderse de los ataques enemigos. Es por ello que los portadores del estandarte deben ser hermanos aguerridos y fieros. Muchos de ellos suelen acceder al cargo de Campeón.

Another members of the Band are the standard and censer bearers. They both signal the place where a hero has fallen and to help in the consecration of his body and head. The standard bearer ins a position of both great honor and risk, because the bearer will not be able to defend against the enemy attacks. This is why these bearers need to be fiery and feisty. Most of them use to promote to the position of Champion.

Otros cargos dentro de la Hermandad son los ejecutores y los portadores de luz. Ambos cumplen funciones específicas en los ritos de consagración llevados a cabo por la Hermandad. Los ejecutores llevan pesados alfanjes para cortar y recoger las cabezas de los muertos, que serán luego tomadas por los sacristanes y el capellán. Los portadores de luz usas sus velas para guiar el alma de los muertos fuera de su cabeza y ayudarles así a abandonar el mundo mortal. Es importante llevar a cabo este ritual para evitar que el alma se vea confundida y quede atrapada por los vórtices de éter, de manera que permanecería maldita para siempre en el mundo mortal.

Other positions of the Band are the light bearers and the executors. They are both related with the consecration rituals of the Sacred Band. The executors carry heavy cutlasses to cut and take away the head of the dead, to be taken lately by the sacristans and the chaplain. The light bearers use their candles to guide the soul of the dead away his head and help it to abandon the mortal world. This is to avoid the soul to be trapped in the aether vortexes, so it would stay cursed in the mortal world forever.

Not Space Marines

Estas son las primeras unidades de Caballeros que van a servir como Marines Espaciales.

These are the first units of Knights which are going to be like Space Marines.

Las miniaturas van pintadas con el esquema de color de los Templarios Negros. Aún no he preparado los estandartes, pero pretendo incluir estandartes heráldicos que tengan un aspecto más marcadamente gótico-medieval que los estandartes de capítulo de los Marines Espaciales.

These figures are painted using the Black Templar color scheme. I haven't prepared the banners yet, but I want to include some heraldic flags with a more remarkable gothic medieval banners than the ones of the Space Marines.

El grupo de mando representa al Mariscal y su cuartel general. Para no realizar conversiones, los caballeros con espada cuentan como Marines con bólter, mientras que los caballeros con armas a dos manos, o con escudo y espada cuentan como marines con pistola bólter y espada sierra. El color de los cascos también ayuda a distinguir el tipo de arma. Así, las dos miniaturas a los lados del Mariscal llevan una franja roja en el casco blanco de veteranos para indicar que portan armas de energía.

The command group shows the Marshal and his Headquarters. In order of not making a lot of conversions, the knights with swords count as Marines with bolter, meanwhile the knights with two handed weapons, or with shield and sword count as Marines with chain sword and bolt pistol. The helmets color scheme also helps to distinguish the kind of weapon. The two figures flanking the Marshall wear a red stripe along the veteran's white helmet to indicate they are carrying power weapons.

Estas dos escuadras de línea llevan dos sargentos, uno con puño de combate y otro con arma de energía. Los yelmos rojos indican el tipo de arma que llevan. El puño de combate está hecho con el puño de un marine espacial. Los escudos con la heráldica blanca y roja indican que son tropas de línea. Sus hombreras blancas sirven como parte del esquema de colores de los Templarios, pero también indican su pertenencia a tropas de línea.

These are the two squads with sergeants, one with power fist and another with power weapon. Red helmets indicate they are carrying power weapons. The power fist is made with the one of a Space Marine. The small shields with white and red heraldry indicates they are line troops. Their white shoulder pads also indicates they are line troops.

Estas otras escuadras llevan armas pesadas. Las armas están hechas con bólteres de Marines. La primera representa un bólter pesado, la segunda un cañón de plasma. El color amarillo ayuda a hacerlas visibles en el campo de batalla.

These other two squads use heavy weapons. The guns are made with Marine's bolter. The first one count as a heavy weapon, and the other a plasma cannon. They are painted in yellow to make them easily located in the battlefield.

Assault Squad

La última unidad que he pintado es una escuadra de asalto con retrorreactores. Las escuadras de asalto son unidades estrella en mis combates, ya que maximizan el potencial de los marines en combate cuerpo a cuerpo, que es dónde suelo decidir los combates. Incluye a dos Marines con lanzallamas y pistola de plasma para darle potencia de fuego a corta distancia.

The last unit I painted is an Assault Squad with jump packs. The Assault squads are central units in my battles, because they take the best of the Marines at close-quarter fighting, where I used to finish my combats. It include two Marines with flammer and plasma pistol to give more fire power in close combat.

El Sargento Veterano de la unidad Tullius va equipado con un arma de energía con un cráneo de lobo, un antiguo honor cedido por los Lobos Espaciales. El yelmo blanco indica su estatus de veterano. Toda la unidad lleva hombreras enmarcadas en rojo, indicativo de la sección de Asalto del ejército.

The Veteran Sergeant Tullius has an energy sword, an old honor given by the Space Wolves. The white helmet shows his veteran status. All the unit wears red laced shoulders pads to show they are from the Assault section of the army.

Space Marines Veterans and Chaplain

Esta es mi unidad favorita del ejército de Marines Espaciales, aunque no suelo utilizarla mucho en el campo de batalla. Se trata de una unidad de Marines Veteranos equipados con armas de combate cuerpo a cuerpo incluyendo cuchillas relámpago, un hacha de energía y un puño de combate. Todos siguen el sistema de colores del Capítulo, con yelmos blancos y heráldica en rojo para resaltar su estatus.

This is my favorite unit of my Space Marine's army, but I'm not really use to use it in the battlefield. It is a Veteran Marines unit with hand-to-hand weapons, including an energy battle axe, lightning claws and a chainfist. They all follow the Chapter's system of colours, with white helmets and red heraldry to show their status.

En su conjunto, la escuadra posee gran parte del sentido monástico del Capítulo. Todos llevan hábitos o túnicas de tela para mostrar su aspecto monacal. La mejor pieza son los portadores de las reliquias, con un inciensario y el icono del Capítulo, de forma que parezcan estar en mitad de una procesión o una ceremonia celebrada en mitad del campo de batalla, o mejor dicho, donde el la batalla es la propia ceremonia.

As a hole, the squad has most of the monastic sense of the Chapter. All of them wear habits or cloth tunics to show their monastic aspect. The best ones are the reliquary bearers, with a censer and the Chapter's Icon, like if they were in the middle of a ceremony or a procession in the battlefield, or if the battle itslef were the ceremony.

La escuadra actúa también como escolta del Capellán del Capítulo, Thyresias. La miniatura es la del Inquisidor Díaz de Torquemada, pero le he realizado algunas conversiones.

The squad also acts as the bodyguard of the Chapter's Chaplain, Thyresias. The figure is from the inquisitor Diaz de Torquemada, but I made some conversions.

Thyresias es uno de los miembros más antiguos del Capítulo, más que el actual Capitán del Capítulo. Porta una servoarmadura metálica sin pintar, símbolo de pureza, y va cargado de todo tipo de reliquias, incluída una pistola de plasma de precisión y espada de energía, que muchos dicen que no ha desenvainado jamás. Nadie conoce el significado del enorme águila que porta junto a él. Muchos dicen que es símbolo de su fe en el Emperador, pero otros sugieren que es un símbolo que guarda una verdad oculta mucho más siniestra, y que tiene algo que ver con el libro y el reloj que siempre lleva con él. No suele hablar mucho, y tampoco suele responder a ninguna de las preguntas que se le formula: ea como sea, es posible que sus secretos sean demasiado oscuros para que un profano pueda llegar a conocerlos.

Thyresias is one of the oldest members of the Chapter, even more than the current Captain of the Chapter. He has a nude power armour, simbol of purity, and wears a lot of relics, including a hand-maded plasma gun and an energy sword, that it is said he has never unseathed. No one knows the significance of the huge eagle he always carries with. Some say it is a symbol of his faith in the Emperor, but other suggest that it is a symbol wich kept a deeper and hidden truth, that could be related with the book and the hourglass the always carries with. He use to speak briefly, and doesn't use to answer any question, really: it is possible that his secrets were so dark that a profane can not know them.

Company Command Squad

Esta es la escuadra de mando de la Compañía. Está formada por un Capitán, un Campeón, un Portaestandarte, Apotecario, Sargento Veterano con puño de combate, y dos Hermanos Veteranos, uno de ellos con rifle de fusión. En conjunto, la unidad está muy dirigida al combate cuerpo a cuerpo, que es dónde creo que los Marines dan lo mejor de sí.

This is the Company Command Squad. Is it made up with one Captain, one Champion, one Standar bearer, one Apothecary, Veteran Sergeant and two Veteran Brothers, one with a melta gun. They all are prepared for the hand to hand combat, where I think that Space Marines do their best.

La unidad lleva algún trabajo adicional en las heráldicas. Tanto el Capitán como el Campeón llevan dos escudos de Warhammer con una heráldica pintada en blanco. El estandarte incluye los lemas "Gloria Imperatorem Humanitatis" y "Et nullus metus cognoscerunt". Le he dado a los colores del estandarte un acabado oscuro y siniestro, que me pega muy bien con la idea de Marines que tengo, basada en las ilustraciones de John Blanche.

The unit has some aditional work in the heraldries of the shields. Both the Captain and the Champion wear shields from Warhammer with an heraldry in white. The Standard has the himns "Gloria Imperatorem Himanitatis" and "Et nullus metus cognoscerunt". I gave to the Standard very dark, sinister colors, because they fit very well with the typical idea that I have about the Marines, inspired in the pictures of John Blanche.

Second Tactical Squad

Con esta unidad he terminado las escuadras tácticas que tenía pendientes. Desde e-bay he conseguido pujar por tres más, para engrosar el ejército. Esta escuadra táctica está un poco más orientada al combate cuerpo a cuerpo que la anterior: el sargento lleva un arma de energía y el rifle de fusión y el lanzamisiles pueden servir para ablandar al enemigo antes de asaltarlo.

With this unit I have finished the two tactical squads that I had. I have bid for three squads more, to increase the army. This squad is a more indicated for hand-to-hand combat than the other: the sergeant carries a power sword and the multi-melta gun and the missile launcher will weaken the enemy unit before the assault.

El lanzamisiles tiene una conversión que realicé hace mucho tiempo. Tiene el pie apoyado sobre un camarada muerto con una pose un tanto forzada, pero que resulta muy efectista. Si os preguntáis como un Marine puede acabar tan hecho polvo, la respuesta es que fue un Tiránido.

The missil launcher has a conversion that I made a long time ago. He has the foot in the corpse of one comrade. The pose is a bit unrealistic, put I think it is very dramatic. If someone asks how a Space Marine could be so badly injured, a Tyranid did it.

Ahora estoy preparando la escuadra de mando, a la que le he añadido otro rifle de fusión. Estoy preparando un estandarte, y me gustaría que incluyera dos lemas en latín. El primero de ellos es "Gloria al Emperador de la Humanidad", que lo he traducido como "Gloria Imperatorem Humanitatis". El otro es el lema de los Marines, "Y no conocerán el miedo", que he traducido como "Et nullus metus congnoscarunt". Tal vez sepáis decirme si están bien traducidos.

I'm actually painting the Command Squad, that I have given one multi-melta gun. I'm also preparing a standard, and I would like to include two different slogans in latin. The firs one is "Glory to the Emperor of Humankind", and I've tanslated it as "Gloria Imperatorem Humanitatis". The other is the Space Marine's motto, "And they shall know no fear", which I translated as "Et nullus metus cognoscarunt". Perhaps you could help me with them if they are wrong.

Space Marines from the Order of St. Marcus

Bueno, como ya dije, me encuentro en pleno pintado (o, mejor dicho, re-pintado) de mi capítulo de Marines, mientras lucho por conseguir algunas piezas más en e-bay. El Capítulo ha sido varias veces bautizado a causa de su azarosa y trágica historia, pero en la actualidad se autodenominan "La Orden de San Marcus", en referencia a su legendario Señor del Capítulo y mártir, Marcus Númitor. La heráldica es negra con cruces blancas. Me gusta porque es fácil de pintar y muy efectista.

As I said before, I'm painting (or re-painting) my Space Marines Chapter, while I try to get some bargains from e-bay. The Chapter has been named several times due to its unfortunate and tragic history, but it is actually known as "The Order of St.Marcus", remembering their legendary Master and martyr, Marcus Numitor. The heraldry is black with white crosses. I like it because it is easy to paint and very effective.

Old forgotten (and damned) armies...

Por culpa de mi amigo Pepe, y después de librar una batalla súper emocionante con un reglamento al que hacía fácilmente dos años que no jugaba, he vuelto a recordar mis más viejos y queridos ejércitos... los de Warhammer 40.000. Warhammer fue el inicio de mi vida wargamera (como el de muchos, seguro), y aunque la madurez y la maléfica política de ventas Games Workshop me hizo finalmente alejarme del juego para probar nuevas experiencias con wargames históricos, lo cierto es que es muy difícil para uno abandonar sus raíces.

Because of my friend Pepe, and after playing and amazing battle with a rulebook that I haven't played for two years, I have remembered my oldest and loved armies... of Warhammer 40k. Warhammer was my beginnig in the wargames world (like a lot of you, I suppose...). Maturity and the evil policy of prices of Games Workshop made me to forget the hobby, but it is very difficult to give up completely the origins of one's.

Jugar también me ha dado pie a retomar un viejo, viejíiisimo proyecto abandonado: la construcción de un castillo de escala 28mm para las batallas de Warhammer, que es posible que vuelva a retomar por centésima vez. Os dejo unas fotos.
