Army of Lobania

- - -
My friend Pepe and I are advancing in good order in our fantasy world proyect, althought we have to obstacles to face, as are the lack of time and, following Pepe's words, my intolerable defect of having all the figures detaily painted. Even so, the thing goes well and I'm also thinking in some parallel ideas, like a Roleplaying Impetus Fantasy.

- - -
Among the finished ideas, we have a completed map of Lobania and the basis for its army. Lobania is settled to the east of the Northern Kingdoms. It is an indomitable land, covered by plateaus massively occupied by deep forests of pine and taiga, and large fluvial valleys.

- - -
The cavalry, made up with the nobility and its close retainers, as in Logren happens, is the spinebone of the lobanian armies. Its knights use to dress cloaks made up with wolf skins, which show themselves as warriors. When the king can not command the hosts, is one of the Lobanian pennant-carrier, heir of one of the ancient lobanian clans, the one who direct the lobanian knights into combat.

- - -
The mass of the lobanian fighters is formed by Men-at-arms equipped by the lobanian nobility. Spearmen and infantrymen use to accompain the knights when an enemy attack enters in any local fief. Among them can be seen some archers and crossbowmen, but the wooded land of Lobania doesn't keep them being long in numbers.

Takeda warband finished

I've finished the cavalry and some of the Takeda infatry I have prepared. Troops are directeb by Yamagata Masakage, whom I have rebased and prepared in an independent base.

To include more importance in the game to the different samurai general, I decided to try some hand-made rules using the basing rules for the independent generals, but using the base to include it in any unit during the game, giving to it one, two or three luck throwings during the battle.

Sunday battle

I'm preparing some Takeda troops and rebasing the older ones. To start with, I'm going to prepare three cavalry bases and another three infantry ones, and also some "auxiliar" troops, like the archers and some Ashigaru. The problem is that Zvezda's Ashigaru are all kneeling, and I would like to have all the Takeda troops in charging poses, because I think it suits more with the cavalry tactics of the clan.

Photo tuning

This is my first trying with Photoshop and I'm happy with the result, except the finishing of the trees' crowns. It represents a fortuitous encounter between Suwa and Takeda garrisons in the southern Shinano frontier, close to the Daimon pass.

Shinano warband

I've just finished some figures and based others to create the bulk of the Shinano army that attacked Shingen in the battle of Nirasaki, in 1541. Just in the moment when Shingen deposed his father, the main daimyos of Shinano, Suwa, Ogasawara and Murakami allied and attacked the Takeda trying to take advantage of their division.

The army is composed by two Ashigaru units, one of Suwa and another of Murakami, two Samurai units, one of them of Ogasawara, two Ashigaru archers and one Murakami Samurai cavalry.

The Murakami cavalry is made of the old base I made to represent Murakami Yoshikiyo in my failes project to recreate the battle of Uedahara. I've included one samurai running with them to represent the mixed formations so common in the samurai warfare.

- - -
The objetive will be to include more units as I advance in increasing the armies, adding more units to represent any army of Shingen's campaigns in Shinano. By now, I've obtained some information to make a general idea, but I'm waiting my Christmas gift, two books of Terje Solum about the campaigns of Takeda, to focus on it.

Shinano Alliance

Shinano province was the first region being conquered by Takeda Shingen. There were three daimyo before his archenemy Uesugi Kenshin, which fought hardly against the power of the Takeda during more than 10 years. These three daimyo were well-known enemies of the Kai warriors, and at the beginning of the military career of Shingen they joined together trying to defeat the young and pretentious leader of the Takeda clan.

The first of them to fight Takeda was Suwa Yorishige, daimyo from the south of Shinano and chief priest of two important shinto shrines. Yowishige was defeated during a campaign in the year 1542, being betrayed by Takato Yoritsugu, a neighbouring daimyo wich also wanted the control of both sanctuaries. Suwa Yorishige finally surrender and commited hara kiri.

Another local daimyo which fought agains Takeda was Ogasawara Nagatoki. Nagatoki supported Murakami Yoshikiyo against Takeda, but also he organized his own campaign against the Kai strategist. He was finally defeated, so he fled and took refuge in Murakami Yoshikiyo's lands.

The last of the Shinano daimyos, and the one who offered more resistence was Murakami Yoshikiyo. Murakami was the most powerfoul daimyo of the northern lands of Shinano, close to Echigo province. Murakami fought hardly against Shingen supporting the local daimyos, but when all of them were submitted, he fought alone for five years. Murakami was the first japanese general in using firearms in the battle of Uedahara, and he will defeat Takeda again in the battle of the siege of Toishi. At the end, Yoshikiyo had to scape from Shinano and become one of the generals of Uesugi Kenshin.
